Simmonds has been working closely with Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund and other NGO’s to ensure that the timber we import from Indonesia and Malaysia is sourced from Certified Legal Forests. Simmonds was the first company in Australasia to introduce independent third party verification using DNA technology from CertiSource. Simmonds’ DNA LUMBER brand is supported by the CertiSource chain-of-custody system which certifies each individual shipment through the supply chain. Regular audits are conducted by DoubleHelix (ISO 65 Guide accredited auditors) against the CertiSource Timber Legality Standard on behalf of Simmonds. DoubleHelix uses DNA testing to match each product shipment back to the point of harvest. Simmonds Lumber is a signatory to the Common Platform on Eliminating Illegal Forest Products in Australia, which supports action to ban the importation and trade in illegally procured timber products.
