This is a plantation specie from Fiji. Botanically it is the same as Brazilian Mahogany, Swietenia spp., but, as the trees are only some 60 years old, the timber is paler in colour. Density 570Kg/M3. Saws and machines well.
Uses – Has a wide range of uses, including furniture and joinery, but is being stocked only as 90x19 decking at this stage. Our first shipment is due to arrive early June.
Availability – Plentiful supplies in Fiji. The plantations are within reasonably easy access of sealed roads so supply is generally not hampered by the rainy season. |
