I-BEAMS

I-Beam can save both labour and material costs while improving the quality of construction. In most cases I-Beams permit longer clear spans and wider spacing than conventional lumber while virtually eliminating squeaky floors. I-Beams are designed to resist shrinking, twisting, splitting and warping.

I-Beams can be cut to length on the jobsite. The wide flanges provide more nailing and gluing surface for flooring and decking attachment, which increases stiffness and decreases vibration. The web allows easy passage of ductwork and utilities.

The wider flange offered by the 40, 60 and 80 series joists provides broader gluing and nailing surfaces for floor and roof sheathing, saving valuable time and money. Wide flange joists offer longer spans and greater load carrying capacity, with beams that are lighter and easier to carry than normal lumber.

Advantages over conventional Lumber:

  1. Wider flange for greater nailing and gluing surfaces
  2. Resists shrinking or twisting
  3. Lightweight and easier to handle
  4. Longer lengths are readily available if required
  5. Longer spans and more load carrying capacity per pound
  6. Electrical conduit, plumbing and most HVAC can be passed through the web
  7. Ideal for complex framing plans
