Sapwood is moderately well-defined. Heartwood is dark pink or light brick red.
Grain is straight or sometimes shallowly interlocked.
Texture is moderately coarse but even.
Vessels are with simple perforations, medium-sized, generally moderately few, solitary and in radial groups mostly consisting of 3 or 4. Occasionally consists of a large vessel with a tail-like appendage of very small vessels of 4 to 8 in a series (such tailed vessels are characteristic). Vessels are evenly distributed but with a tendency to arrange in short oblique lines. Deposits are occasionally present.
Wood parenchyma is paratracheal, sparse but generally visible as incomplete borders or tending to aliform and occasionally to locally confluent. Rays are fine, usually visible to the naked eye.
