In May 2008 Simmonds Lumber acquired North Harbour Timber Ltd., in order to widen their customer base into the timber user markets of joinery, furniture manufacture, mouldings and other end uses. Their Director Bruce Fordham has over 40 years experience in the timber industry both in New Zealand and overseas, having contacts for supply from West Africa to the Pacific Islands and also closer to home with NZ native timbers. This brings to the division additional experience and a wider scope to their operations.

To cater for the extra stock to service this wider customer base and to enable Simmonds Lumber to service more efficiently their existing customers, they moved to larger premises in March to Gabador Place, Mt. Wellington. The covered warehouse is some 20,000 sq. ft. with exterior hardstand of anther 6500 sq.ft.
